Arkansas student wins National Music Week Essay Contest

Samantha Holt was named the Arkansas winner in the 2014 NFMC National Music Week Essay Contest. Samantha is a senior at Valley View High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She began playing piano as a young child and is now taking lessons from Dr. J.D. Kelley (pictured). Outside of piano, Samantha has been involved in other areas of music as well. She has played flute as a member of the Valley View Band program for seven years and piano in the Jazz Band for three years. Recently, she became a part of the Valley View Chamber Choir. Also, she has participated in the flag line of the marching band for three years, two of which she was chosen to be captain. Samantha is also a part of National Honor Society and the competing Model United Nations group at Valley View. After graduation, she intends to attend Arkansas State University and major in Music Performance with piano as her primary instrument.
